Lapsang Oolong
Harvest: 06.2020. Variety: Xiao Cai.
Maybe you have heard about Lapsang Souchong Black Tea, but have you ever tried a Lapsang Oolong? Lapsang is the translation of Fujian dialect, meaning real mountain (the Wuyi Mountain). A authentic Lapsang is from the idyllic Tong Mu village in Wuyi mountain. This is the village hidden deep in the mountain and famous for making tbe first black tea in the world. Famous black teas like Jin Jun Mei and Laosang Souchong are the traditional tea from this little fairy-tale village. However, Oolong tea from this village is not that heard of. Our Oolong is made by a family in Tong Mu Guan during their spare time when all their exclusive black tea has been made and sold out (which happens soon after completion).
This Lapsang Oolong is made with bigger leaves than the ones used for making good Lapsang Souchong tea, as the leaves are picked later. The tea is pesticide and fertilizer free. It has a similar taste to a Lapsang Souchong Black tea but lighter and not as smoky. It has a very fruity and comfortable sweetness. It was charcoal baked at low fire, and has very nice toasty taste and warming effect on the inner body. It makes a perfect daily drink.
Feedback from our tea-friend Maik Schirmer: The dry leaf smell was nice roasty coffee like, wet leafs a mix of very floral and fruity, left scent in the gong dao bei is sweet and nearly chocolate like,
Taste is multi layered, starting with floral and going over some cherry to chocolate in the end... A very very interesting and tasty tea.
