Zhuni is the most cherished Yixing Ton. It's red with a hint of orange. Even decades ago, the clay was not allowed to be mined. This pot is made from the ancient Zhuni clay that the Yixing craftsman stored for decades. The clay is very popular as it transforms beautifully after a few months of use. The color changes to a dark and shiny red, almost like a layer of beautiful glaze. But the pot is of course not glazed at all, the color change is only due to the interaction between the clay and the tea prepared in it.
A Zhuni teapot is very expensive not only because of the extinct Zhuni clay, but also because it shrinks a lot during firing. The teapots shrink in the kiln from a large size to a much smaller size, and most break in the process. Therefore, it is very difficult to successfully make a teapot from Zhuni clay. A fully handmade Zhuni teapot costs thousands of Chinese (at least hundreds of dollars). This Zhuni Aili in our shop is semi-handmade, so it is relatively cheaper.
The shape of this Zhuni teapot is called Aili, which means a small pear in Chinese. The surface of the teapot shows the shrinkage mark of Zhuni clay during firing. The Zhuni Aili pot is mini, only 100ml. It is perfect for drinking gongfu tea alone, for enjoying exclusive teas and just for collecting the teapot for aesthetic reasons. Don't forget that the color of the teapot changes. You will have a beautiful and shiny Zhuni persimmon for a few months if you brew tea in it very often.
