Wuyi Tea – Rock Tea with Character
Teas from the Wuyi Mountains in China's Fujian province are among the most famous Oolong teas in the world. The rugged mountains and rock formations produce unique teas with mineral depth, delicate roast, and impressive complexity.
At Teewald, you'll find a selection of Wuyi teas – many of which come directly from the protected Wuyi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Tea has been cultivated there for centuries using traditional methods.
Yancha – The Classic Rock Tea
The most famous Wuyi teas are called Yancha ("Rock Tea"). These semi-fermented Oolong teas are characterized by a deep aroma, elegant roasted notes, and a pronounced structure. Typical varieties like Da Hong Pao, Shui Xian, or Rou Gui offer a flavor experience between spice, fruit, and a delicate woody note.
The mineral taste – also known as "Yanyun" – is the hallmark of genuine Wuyi teas and an unmistakable sign of their origin.
Origin & Craft
Our Wuyi teas come from small, family-run gardens in the region, some directly from the heart of the National Park. There, tea is still harvested by hand, traditionally processed, and roasted over charcoal. This meticulous production gives the tea its depth and aging potential.
For Connoisseurs and the Curious
Wuyi Oolong is excellent for multiple infusions – the longer you explore it, the more nuances it reveals. Whether you've been an Oolong fan for a long time or are just starting out: these teas are worth your attention.
