Unique among tea varieties - Pu Erh tea

Pu Erh tea is one of the oldest and most effective types of tea in the world . It was named after the city of the same name, Pu'er, in the southern Chinese province of Yunnan. It was cultivated there 1,700 years ago.

The tea is made from the leaves of the Qingmao, a subspecies of the tea plant Camellia Sinensis ("from China"). The shrub-like plant can reach a height of up to 30 meters and therefore must be pruned during cultivation. This prevents flowering and fruit formation and ensures a practical height for harvesting. The smooth, shiny leaves are dark green and grow to about 12 centimeters long and 3 centimeters wide.

Pu-Erh tea gets its exclusive active ingredients and aromas from its special manufacturing and maturation process . It has a dark red color and is therefore often referred to as red tea.

The complex manufacturing process

In the original, very time-consuming process, the leaves were steamed immediately after harvest. They were then pressed into molds and stored as stacked flat cakes for five years to mature. Numerous microorganisms developed a scent and an impressive flavor. Due to the very long storage time, alternative starter cultures were used at the end of the 1970s. A special mixture of microorganisms made it possible to accelerate the ripening process. This means that a high-quality Pu-Erh tea can be produced within a few months. It is sold commercially as a powder or in pressed form. If you want to buy Pu Erh tea, you should take the ripening time of the tea specialty into account. Similar to red wine, ripeness affects the price. Pu Erh tea is available in raw, unripened as well as naturally or artificially ripened form. The quality of the raw materials, production and PU Erh tea brewing time determine the taste and effect.

Anyone who wants to buy Pu Erh tea to lose weight is choosing a healthy way to reduce weight . The ingredients and caffeine content vary depending on the quality of the raw material and the further processing.

Taste, Preparation and Pu Erh Tea Brewing Time

The taste of the fruity-smelling Pu Erh tea can be particularly earthy, full-bodied, sweet or slightly bitter depending on the degree of ripeness. Similar to a good wine, the taste changes during the ripening process. This can also include flavors reminiscent of wood or chocolate.

A particularly exquisite selection is available as Pu Erh Premium tea . Due to its considerable caffeine content, Pu Er tea is a popular alternative to breakfast coffee.

If you want to prepare Pu Erh tea, the pressed version requires a little more effort. The brewing time of the Pu Erh tea plays an important role.

When preparing pressed Pu Erh tea, the desired amount is first cut off with a special tea knife. Then the tea is infused with water at a temperature of around 95 degrees. After the tea has steeped for around half a minute, the infusion water is thrown away according to old tradition. This is how the tea is cleaned. Hot water is then poured over the tea up to 4 times in total. This increases the Pu Erh tea brewing time each time.

Pu Erh tea in loose form is easier. Loose tea is prepared in the same way as other types of tea. The tea should be stored in a dark place without exposure to sunlight.
