Shu Pu Erh Mansong 2023

Harvest : Spring 2023
Altitude : 1300 m - 1500 m
Variety : Yunnan Da Ye Zhong
Terroir : Yibang Mountains, Xiangming Town, Mengla County, Xishuang Banna, Yunnan

Aroma : wet wood, moss and forest after rain.
Taste : dark cocoa, grass pudding, woodruff pudding without sugar

This is a cleanly fermented Shu Pu Erh with no hint of woo-woo in its flavor. When brewed strongly, the tea has a cocoa flavor with hints of grass jelly; when brewed lightly, the velvety texture is very soothing to the back of the throat. It has a clean and pure flavor, as you would expect from well-fermented Shu Pu Erh.

A little about Mansong

The name Mansong has long been associated with tribute tea, as Mansong tea was a tribute tea to the imperial court during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Mansong Tea Plantation is located in Xiangming Township on Yibang Tea Mountain, one of the Six Ancient Tea Mountains. Mansong's soil is very special: purple-red sandy gravel, acidic red soil rich in zinc, which gives Mansong tea a unique sweetness and aroma. Although this soil has a high content of trace elements, its soil characteristics—"turned to mud by water and stone by wind"—make it very unfavorable for tea trees, and the growth of Mansong tea is therefore very slow. Therefore, both the fields and the tea trees here are specially protected. All Pu Erh trees in this area are seed-propagated, and never in their history have the plants been treated with pesticides or fertilizers. The tea trees are not typically pruned.

Preparation of Mansong Shu Pu Erh

This Sheng Pu Erh should be prepared using the Gong Fu Brewing method to get the maximum enjoyment out of the tea.
