The gaiwan is a traditional Chinese vessel used for preparing gongfu style tea, tea tasting and the Chinese tea ceremony. It is a kind of cup with a lid on it, often with a saucer as well. It allows you to view and smell the tea as it brews. The Gaiwan is actually a universal utensil for preparing tea. You can actually brew any tea once you learn how to use it!
The best gaiwans are made from traditional Chinese porcelain in Jingde Zhen or Dehua. However, there are also very good clay gaiwans made by hand in the Czech Republic. A special Czech artist is Ales Dancak. We have many of his gaiwans in stock.
