Description

Xingren Xiang Dancong Oolong 2020 Spring Tea

This is a super nutty Dancong oolong from Fenghuang Mountain, Guangdong Province, China. It was freshly harvested and roasted in May 2020.

Xingren Xiang has the smallest leaves of all Dancong Oolong, that’s why this cultivar is known as the little prince of Dancon Oolong.

Taste and aftertaste

The aroma of Xingren Xiang is the nuttiest I have ever smelled of any Oolong tea. The leaves in a warm Gaiwan give out such a nutty, creamy and roasty aroma, it reminds one of nothing else but the Christmas market with all the roasted and sugar coated nuts, sweet butter cookies, roasted chestnuts, caramel and honey. If it is not because my boiled water cooling down, I can keep smelling the warm leaves forever. One just cannot get enough of this smell.

The taste is more subtle than the aroma, it’s sweet and nutty with a ghostly hint of apricot and orange juice. In the later infusions, the fruitiness and juiciness come out more, while the nuttiness and creaminess slowly fade away (but it never disappears).

Due to the enduring sweet aftertaste, this tea can be a good replacement for dessert.

The smell and sweet taste of the tea is 100% natural from tea leaves and from the oxidizing and roasting process, with no flavor addition.

To enjoy the scent of the dry tea leaves, heat up your cup, gaiwan or teapot with hot water, discard the water and add 5 grams of dry leaves. The heat of the cup leaves the tea leaves to release the aroma and makes you completely relaxed.

FABULOUS

One of the best teas I have drunk in over 3 decades. The smell of the brewed tea leaves is really unimaginably intense and delicious: orchids in full bloom fill the nose and with my eyes closed I just think HEAVENLY. In terms of taste, this Dancong Oolong is also in a class of its own, ever new aromas paired with a beautiful sweetness enchant the taste buds in a fantastic way. Very complex with depth. Will definitely order again (30g only lasted a few days). I couldn't resist because the Xingren Xiang Dancong Oolong is like a (positive) drug and it had me immediately. A permanent place in my collection is definitely reserved for it. WHAT A WONDERFUL TEA. Thank you Teewald.

High-quality Dancong from a rather rare variety

Very complex, on the one hand the mineral aroma typical of Dancong, on the other hand very soft, sweet, almost creamy. With 2 heaped teaspoons (3-4g) per 100ml of liquid, I managed to make six high-quality infusions with boiling water and very short brewing times (20s, 10s, 10s, 15s, 20s, 30s). This is quite normal for Dancong, further infusions (7+8) are not necessarily recommended in terms of taste. But this tea does not deviate from other high-quality Dancongs in this respect. So this is not a flaw. This tea is recommended for everyone who likes Dancong.
